More than 447,000 infant car seat carriers have been recalled by the Dorel Juvenile Group because the handle to the carrier seat can break loose. The company has received 77 reports of the handle fully or partially coming off the car seat/carrier resulting in at least three injuries to infants including bumps, bruises and a head injury. The joint announcement was made by Dorel, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This recall involves car seat/carriers branded Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney that were manufactured from January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009. (See the recall notice for the full list of model numbers.) The model number and manufacture date are located on a label on the side of the car seat/carrier. They were sold as part of a travel system. The stroller portion of the travel system is not affected by this recall.

The travel systems were sold at department and juvenile product stores nationwide from January 2008 through December 2009 for between $120 and $220.

The manufacturer is advising consumers not to use the handle of the car seat/carrier until a repair kit has been installed. Parents can continue to use it as a car seat when properly installed in a vehicle.  To receive a free repair kit, contact Dorel at (866) 762-3316 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.djgusa.com/safety_notice.

While watching the news this morning 9 News Denver did a piece on the difficulties that the Toys For Tots program is having within Denver this year.  Below is an article written by Jeffrey Wolf and Anastasiya Bolton.  We all should try to dig a little deeper this year if we can, and try and brighten a child’s life by purchasing a toy for them to open this holiday season.

AURORA – A dramatic drop in donations could hurt children too young to understand why they may not get a single toy for Christmas this year.

The Marines who work for Toys for Tots say they are hoping for a miracle.

“It’s been that bad of a year,” Cpl. Catherine Hild with Toys for Tots said. “Everybody’s heard of the movie ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ right now we need a miracle on 33rd Street.”

Toys for Tots got nearly 70,000 requests this year, but as things stand now, about 50,000 will not be filled unless a massive amount of donations arrive in the next few days.

Their Aurora warehouse on East 33rd Avenue is usually full this time of year, but this year it is almost completely bare.

That has made filling orders very tough.

“I’m filling an order that’s from Project Hope that works with Children’s Hospital,” Cpl. Catherine Hild with Toys for Tots said. “It’s like going through and shopping for all of these kids.”

“I go through it and I think, ‘If I were a mom, what would I want my kid to have?’” she said.

She does not have many options this year.

“Usually it’s flooded with toys,” Hild said. “Right now we have probably four to 5,000 toys in our warehouse versus usually we have about 40,000.”

“This is the worst I’ve ever seen it. And we’ve of course had the most requests for toys this year. People that need them, families that can’t afford it. I read sob story after sob story. It makes me cry,” she said.

Every day small donations do come in.

Jeff Pratt with Tsys Isolutions dropped off his company’s donations on Tuesday.

“Whatever we can do, we’re glad to do that,” he said.

His 90 employees have donated for the last nine years.

Last week, the charity got a donation of 100 bikes, but needed helmets so they could give the bikes away. The community responded, giving them more helmets than they needed.

But all those donations are simply drops in the bucket.

The organization has extended the deadline for accepting toys from Dec. 16 to Dec. 23. At least 100 community organizations are depending on these toys to give them out to the people in need. Forty other groups are on the waiting list this year.

“I believe in Denver. They can do it. I know it can happen. It’s just a matter of the community coming together and bringing it out,” Hild said.

If you want to help Toys for Tots, you can all 303-801-0166 or visit http://www.macs23toysfortots.50megs.com/.

They are looking for toys for all genders and all ages, specifically infant and toddler, 10 years and up, sports equipment, inexpensive fake jewelry and watches.

You can drop toys off at the Toys for Tots warehouse at 12601 E. 33rd Ave. in Aurora from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until Dec. 23.

Denver, December 15, 2009 – Pynergy Petroleum Company joined other Denver area companies at the Denver Rescue Mission preparing meals and bolstering the spirits of individuals and families in need.

The enthusiastic team arrived at the Denver Rescue Mission before lunch and was immediately put to work chopping and prepping for noontime service. About 150 people — young, old and entire families — received a comforting meal seasoned with camaraderie. For many, it may have been their only meal of the day, or the best meal they had eaten in quite some time.

“This was an amazing experience for everyone involved,” said Brandon Prentice, Division Sales Manager of Pynergy Petroleum Company. “We were especially happy to do our part to bring some joy into the lives of people who are having such a difficult time during this holiday season. The work being done by the Denver Rescue Mission is nothing less than amazing!”

In keeping with Prentice’s sentiments, the Pynergy Petroleum management team plans to regularly offer voluntary and monetary support to the Denver Rescue Mission.
